A:

The following characters may not be used in "Application setting" names,

| \ : " / <

Steinberg Nuendo 2

Q: How do I configure Steinberg Nuendo 2 to work with my Shuttle device?

A:

You must configure the Key Commands within Steinberg Nuendo 2 to enable the Shuttle to work. For complete instructions please read nuendo_2_windows_shuttle_setup.pdf.

Q:

How do I make a setting the 'Default setting' when the application or program starts up?

A:

The Default Setting for an application is determined alphabetically. If you want a setting to load as the primary or default setting in an application, change the name of that setting using the 'Rename Settings' option in the Contour ShuttlePRO Control Panel, to be the first alphabetically.

Q: Why does the Shuttle device Control Panel always open to the Global Setting application setting?
A: The Shuttle device Control Panel is used only to manage (edit, view, create new, remove, etc.) your application settings. You cannot select the application setting you would like to currently use from the Shuttle device Control Panel. Each application setting is associated to the application it supports, and will automatically be enabled when you launch the application. The Shuttle device control panel will always open with the Global Setting.

Q: I have lost one of the clear button/key caps to my shuttle device. How can I get a replacement?
A:

You can request replacement button/key caps by email or calling our customer support center.

Q: How long of a cable can I use to connect my Shuttle device?
A:

The USB specification limits the length of a cable for a low speed device to 3 meters (9 feet 10 inches). For more information about connecting USB devices please check out www.usb.org for current USB specifications

  Media 100

Q:

The ShuttlePRO buttons do not work or stopped working with Media 100.

A:

You must turn on transport controls within Media 100 software to enable the ShuttlePRO to function correctly. First, you must have Media 100 launched and it must be the front most window. Second, press "Shift+Num Lock/Clear" to toggle transport controls to On.

  Pro Tools

Q:

How do I get the play head to follow the location I am moving to in Pro Tools?

A:

In ProTools click on the setups pull down menu, and select Preferences. In the Preferences dialog box please turn on or check the following, Timeline insertion follows playback, and edit insertion follows Scrub/Shuttle.

  After Effects
Q: Why do some After Effects commands not work when programmed into the ShuttlePRO, but the same commands work fine when entered from the keyboard?
A: Some After Effects commands do not work when programmed into the ShuttlePRO because of the way After Effects handles keyboard input. Some of the commands that don't work are; zoom in, zoom out, set in point, and set out point.

Q: Why doesn't the Shuttle wheel work in Final Cut Pro?

A:

The most recent Shuttle driver for Mac, version 2.1.2, will work great! Please follow these simple steps:

1. Open "Applications", and find the "Utilities" folder.
2. Open "Uninstall Contour Shuttle".
3. When asked "Do you want to remove your Contour Shuttle settings files?" select "remove settings". If you have created any settings you would like to save please export those settings to the desktop first. Be sure to restart the computer after un-installing.

Q: Why does the trackpad on my Powerbook or iBook stop functioning when I plug in a Contour Shuttle device?
A: If you are using the trackpad built into the laptop you must de-select the
Ignore trackpad when mouse is present option under the Keyboard and Mouse
System Preference, here's how:

1) Open System Preferences
2) Select Keyboard and Mouse

4) De-select (un-check) Ignore trackpad when mouse is present

Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express

Q:

What are the differences between the three Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express application settings?

A:

There are 3 Final Cut settings: Final Cut Pro/Express (Edit Viewer), Final Cut Pro/Express (Edit Timeline), and Final Cut Pro/Express (Log & Capture). The (Edit Viewer) setting loads by default.

Use the Final Cut Pro/Express (Edit Viewer) and Final Cut Pro/Express (Edit Timeline) settings for editing tasks in the Viewer, Canvas, and Timeline. The button assignments are the same for both settings. The difference between them is how the Shuttle ring is programmed:

  • The (Edit Viewer) setting uses frame advance commands for precise shuttle control. This setting is optimized for the Viewer window.
  • The (Edit Timeline) setting uses the JKL play transport commands to shuttle at different speeds of play. This setting is optimized for the Timeline.

  • The (Log & Capture) setting is optimized for the Log & Capture window. Use this setting for controlling your DV camera or VTR from within the Log and Capture window. Please note the changes of the button assignments compared to the two "Edit" settings.

Select the setting you want to use from the Shuttle Helper menu applet icon.

Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express
Q: How do I configure and use my shuttle device with Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Express?
A: Please read Final Cut Pro & Express Shuttle Setup.pdf

Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express
Q: Why does my shuttle device activate the Expose feature when I am using Final Cut?
A: The Expose feature of OS 10.3.X (Panther), by default, uses two of the same keyboard commands as Final Cut. The "All Windows" command of Expose is F9, which is also the "Insert Clip" command of Final Cut. The "Application Windows" command of Expose is F10, which is also the "Overwrite Edit" command of Final Cut. If you would like to use the "Overwrite Edit" and "Insert Edit" commands within Final Cut and from the Shuttle device you will need to reconfigure Expose, here's how:
    1. Launch System Preferences, and choose Expose.
    2. In the Keyboard section change the key command for "All windows", and "Application windows" to something other than their default values of F9 and F10 respectively.
Alternatively, if you do not want to change the default key commands for Expose, you can re-assign the "Insert Edit" and "Overwrite Edit" functions from within the Keyboard Layout feature of Final Cut. You will then need to re-assign these functions for both the Final Cut Pro/Express (Edit Viewer), and (Edit Timeline) settings from within the Shuttle control panel application. Please consult the Final Cut user guide for detailed instructions on adjusting the Keyboard layout in Final Cut. Please refer to the Shuttle user guide for detailed instructions on modifying shuttle application settings.

      3. Force quit the process by typing option+cmd+Q.
This will remove the menu temporarily. If you now want to remove it permanently, please proceed with steps 4. to 9.
      1. Open the Applications folder, control-click the Contour Shuttle icon and select Show Package contents.
      2. Go to Contents/Resources
      3. Control-click the ContourShuttleHelper icon and select Show Package contents.
      4. Go to Contents/Resources
      5. Create a folder called "Disabled".
      6. Move ContourShuttleMenu into the Disabled folder.

Q: Why is the Shuttle Helper menu applet icon missing from all user accounts except the one in which I installed the driver from?
    A:

You must open the Contour Shuttle application (located in your Applications folder) once for each user account. The icon will then appear each time that user logs in.

Make sure that when you do this, that the QuickKey function you program, is targeted for the application it is used in, and not for all applications.

      Logic 5.3

    Q:

Why when starting Logic 5.3 with the SP and the USB Key attached I get an error, "Multiple XSKEYS detected" and the program terminates? I Unplug the SP and Logic loads correctly.

    2. Launch logic with the USB Key and Mouse connected ONLY.
    3. With Logic running, connect your ShuttlePRO and any other USB devices. You now should be able to use the ShuttlePRO. You only have to do this one time, after this Logic should launch correctly.

    Mac OS 8.6 - 9.2 UP
Q: When I plug my ShuttlePRO in I get a Device Not Found message.

    A:

ShuttlePRO V2 users must update to driver version 1.1

All users must make sure the following extensions are on in Extensions Manager; InputSprocket Extension, HID Library, USB Device Extension. Also, you must make sure you have the latest Apple Input Sprockets version 1.7.3 installed on your system. It is available for download at:

    Q:

When I spin the shuttle ring all these applications start openning. What did I do wrong?

    A:

Go to the Apple, Control Panels, Keyboard and select Function Keys button, then deselect the upper box, that states: "Use F1 through F15 as Hot Function Keys" and this will solve that problem.

Q: I get a message on boot up that states, Software for USB device "jog and shuttle" is not available…
A: Make sure that in Control Panels/Extension Manager that "HID Library", "USB Device Extension", and "InputSprocket Extension" are all On.

Q: When any application with more than one setting I cannot get the shuttle to work correctly.
A: When you are using more than one Application Setting for ANY program you should make sure that the control strip is NOT hidden. Goto the Apple, Control Panels, Control Strip, select Show Control Strip. When you get back into your application you will notice that the control strip has the ShuttlePRO module. You can switch modes on the fly while in your application. A good example for this is if you are going from Edit to Digitize mode in Final Cut Pro The controls are entirely different in these modes and you must be in the correct ShuttlePRO mode for the shuttle to operate properly.
